What are standardbred races called?

Standardbred races are referred to as harness racing or trotting races. In harness racing, the horses pull lightweight two-wheeled sulkies, and the driver sits in the sulky and controls the horse with reins.

Horses in harness races compete either by trotting or pacing. In trotting, the horse must keep one foot on the ground at all times, while in pacing, the horse moves its legs in lateral pairs. Standardbred races are usually held on oval tracks, and the winning horse is the one that completes the predetermined number of laps in the shortest amount of time.
