Do puppies cry when they are born?

Puppies don't actually cry in the same way that humans do. They make a series of soft, whimpering noises when they are born. These noises are important for several reasons:

* To signal to the mother that they are alive and need her attention.

* To stimulate their own breathing.

* To encourage the mother to lick them clean and help them start nursing.

While these noises might sound like crying to us, they are a natural part of the puppy's birth process and are not necessarily a sign of distress.

It's important to note that a weak or distressed puppy might make more pronounced, high-pitched cries. If you are concerned about a puppy's health after birth, it's best to contact a veterinarian.
