Take your dog to a veterinarian to check that she is healthy enough for breeding. Ideally, the male dog also should be checked.
Make sure you are financially ready to take on the expense of breeding. Health clearances and other vet visits cost money, as does paying for the services of the male dog. In case of complications, you may incur significant expense.
Know your dog and the stud. If you aren't sure whether your dog and the prospective stud are good examples of their breed, ask an expert. Only dogs with good temperaments should breed. Your dog should not have any serious genetic problems that could be passed down to its puppies.
Have your dog tested by a vet to judge fertility. A simple smear is available that will let you know when it is time to introduce your dog to a stud. As you are paying for the act and not the result, it's important to make sure the timing is right.
Muzzle your female dog if necessary with a length of gauze during the breeding. Female Dalmatians are known to sometimes be aggressive during mating. A muzzle will ensure that no one, including the stud, gets bitten.
