Instructions
Have your dog examined by a veterinarian. Dogs should be completely healthy before engaging in the mating process, and it is important to screen for hereditary diseases that can impact the puppies.
Find your dog a suitable mate. Try asking a friend if she has a dog she would like to breed or contact a registered breeder. This dog should be examined and screened by a veterinarian, as well.
Wait for your dog, if she is female, or your dog's mate, to go into heat. Once in heat, a female dog's vulva will swell, and she will begin to have a bloody discharge. According to the Dog Training Site, female dogs are ready to mate approximately 9 to 14 days after going into heat.
Avoid feeding either dog on the day that they are to be mated, as advised by the Dog Training Site. This website also recommends muzzling the female dog to prevent her from snapping at the male.
Isolate your dog with his or her mate in a private area where you can monitor their progress, such as a garage or enclosed room. The dogs will greet one another, and the male will show his interest by becoming aroused and sniffing the female dog's genitals.
Allow the dogs to continue the mating process. When the female dog is ready to be mounted, she will present herself to her mate, by standing still and lifting her tail.
Let the male dog mount the female dog. Following successful ejaculation, the male dog will be "locked in" to the female dog until the swelling subsides and the penis can be removed. This can take anywhere from five minutes to over an hour.
Repeat the mating process with your dog and his or her partner the following day, or two days later, to encourage successful breeding.
How to Get Your Dog to Mate With Another Dog
Breeding your dog, whether as an occupation or as a way to add to your pet family, can be an interesting and fulfilling process. Once you find a mate for your dog, it is important to rule out any health problems, before arranging for the mating to take place. Getting your dog to mate with another dog requires a suitable canine companion, as well as proper timing in the female dog's cycle.
