- These are the primary reproductive organs in males.
- They produce sperm cells (spermatogenesis) and the hormone testosterone.
2. Epididymis:
- Tube-like structures located on the testes.
- Sperm mature here and become motile.
3. Vas deferens/Ductus deferens:
- Carry mature sperm from the epididymis to the urethra.
4. Seminal vesicles:
- Secrete a fluid that makes up a large part of the semen.
- This fluid contains nutrients, proteins, and enzymes.
5. Prostate gland:
- Produces an alkaline fluid that neutralizes the acidic environment in the vagina, increasing sperm survival.
6. Bulbourethral glands (Cowper's glands):
- Secrete a clear fluid that acts as a lubricant during sexual arousal.
7. Urethra:
- Common passage for the flow of urine and semen.
- During ejaculation, the urethra transports semen out of the body.
