Instructions
Determine the space you have available for breeding and housing dogs and puppies. Make sure you have housing both inside and outdoors. Cocker spaniels require time to run and play outdoors to stay fit, healthy and content. Obtain crates or pens for training purposes.
Raise either one female or one male cocker spaniel that has not been spayed or neutered. Know that if you breed a female, you will be responsible for the puppies during and after the litter is born. If you choose to work with a stud cocker spaniel, you will have to work with the breeder of the female to determine how many puppies you receive from each litter.
Ensure you can provide adequate housing for the mother dog and her litter of puppies as you will need to keep the puppies with the mother for six to eight weeks. Once the puppies are born, visually assess them to ensure each one appears healthy. Seek veterinary care for any puppy requiring medical assistance.
Keep a journal pertaining to each cocker spaniel puppy, along with pictures. Start your journal once the cocker spaniel puppies have developed a sense of smell, sight and can walk unassisted, about the third or fourth week. Note the personalities of each puppy as once you start selling the puppies, potential owners will inquire about such characteristics.
List the puppies for sale when they are six to eight weeks old. Use digital photos of each puppy in your advertisement and make sure to list any special personality or marking characteristics. Use common coloring names for cocker spaniels such as "blonde" or "tan" to describe pale, beige puppies; "black" for puppies that are completely black or those that are black with tan markings.
Set your price in line with other cocker spaniel puppies in your area. Check newspapers, social media sites and online message boards to determine proper pricing. Command a higher price if you have the breeding papers of both the mother and father as people will pay a higher fee for purebred cocker spaniel puppies.
