Do belugas give birth to live young?
Belugas do indeed give birth to live young, much like other mammals. Beluga mothers give birth to a single calf every three years on average, after a gestation period of around 15 months. The newborn beluga calves are around 1.5 meters (5 feet) long and weigh around 30 kilograms (66 pounds). They are born with a dark gray color, which changes to white as they mature. Beluga mothers provide extensive care to their young, nursing them for up to 2 years and teaching them essential survival skills.
