Affectionate Temperament
-
Cockapoos are friendly and affectionate dogs, once they warm up to you. A cockapoo puppy can experience a period of withdrawal after removal from the mother. This lasts for a few days, during which time it will begin to grow accustomed to its new surroundings. Spend time with your new puppy, but give it time to explore its new home. Once it begins to accept the change, you will notice it quickly growing more affectionate towards you and your family. Move your puppy to your lap, letting it know that it's safe there. Cockapoos are natural lap dogs, often spending hours sitting on your lap and enjoying your attention.
Playful Mannerisms
-
A cockapoo puppy, once it is comfortable in your home, has plenty of energy and loves to play. This includes games inside your home, as well as taking walks with you. While cockapoos are small, ranging from 1 foot to 1 1/2 feet tall, they are quick to engage you in activities and have enough energy to keep up with you. Be careful around cockapoo puppies, which tend leap at any opportunity to play, even if they are still too small for you to play rough.
Easy to Train
-
Cockapoos are a naturally smart hybrid breed, making them quick learners when you begin training. Start training your cockapoo early, working on potty training, crate training and discouraging biting and destructive play. Never strike or hit your cockapoo puppy. When you see your cockapoo doing something it should not be doing, use a harsh word like "no." Turn away from your puppy and give it a few moments to realize that it did something bad, before returning your affections. You will find it able to learn commands quickly.
Willing to Please
-
A cockapoo is particularly receptive to positive reinforcement techniques, such as praise, petting and treats. As a breed, they tend to want to perform tasks that make their owners happy. Reinforce this trait in your puppy by giving it the attention and affection it craves. Avoid letting your anger or frustration show around a cockapoo puppy, as it may interpret your emotions to mean that it has done something wrong.
