Brindle Pit Bull Facts

When it comes to Pit Bulls, the word "brindle" refers to coat color, not to a specific type of Pit Bull. Although Pit Bulls come in a wide variety of color combinations, brindle is one of their more common colors. Brindle is perhaps best described as sort of a marbled brown. These dogs do not have solid colored coats, and the shades and intensities of browns vary quite dramatically from dog to dog. Besides the difference in the color of its coat, a brindle Pit Bull is the same as any other Pit Bull.
  1. Coat

    • Brindle Pit Bulls have a coat that consists of various shades of the color brown. The coat may also contain stripes, which are often compared to the stripes on a tiger's coat. Many Pit Bulls have this brindle coat cover their whole body. Other Pit Bulls have only a partial brindle coat that appears in patches. When this is the case, the remainder of the coat will be a totally different color such as white or tan.

    Aggression

    • Brindle Pit Bulls are generally not friendly towards other dog breeds, and are often labeled as dog-aggressive. Even Pit Bulls that were once friendly towards other breeds can change their tune after they've reached sexual maturity. Adult Pitt Bulls should never be left unsupervised if another dog is in the vicinity. Pit Bulls also have an instinct that can cause them to go after small prey. It's not rare for a Pit Bull to be seen stalking smaller animals such as rats or chickens.

    Qualities

    • A Brindle Pit Bull is considered to be a very loyal and loving pet. Pit Bulls are not only affectionate towards adults but children as well. Pit Bulls have an intense desire to please their master, and will rarely display blatant disobedience. Brindle Pit Bulls are also highly intelligent and do a great job of guarding and protecting property and people. They are a fearless breed that will take on anything that threatens what they're protecting. Pit Bulls won't hesitate to fight to the death in order to protect their master.

    Grooming

    • A brindle Pit Bull's coat consists of short hairs that are smooth to the touch. The coat is relatively easy to care for, but will need to be brushed on a regular basis. For best results, avoid using a soft brush, opting instead for one that has firm bristles. Dry a brindle Pit Bull with a towel to restore shine to its coat. In general, the brindle Pit Bull is not considered to be a heavy shedder -- but these dogs will shed somewhat throughout the year.
