Standard Poodle Personality Traits

Poodles are a dignified dog breed that comes in several different colors and sizes. The term "standard" is reserved for poodles at least 15 inches tall with long legs, a tall and elegant posture, and a long and straight foreface. Standard poodles make excellent indoor dogs, though they do enjoy being active and getting exercise. This type of poodle is often seen at dog shows as they have the poise and dignity of fine show dogs.
  1. Social Behavior

    • The social behavior of standard poodles is one of many benefits of this dog breed. They enjoy being around people of all ages, including small children, as well as other dogs and often other types of small pets, such as cats. Standard poodles are extremely friendly, cuddly and lovable with their owners and other adults they have regular contact with. They are easy to socialize with a new dog in the house, neighbors and friends.

    Energy

    • The energy of standard poodles is similar to other types of poodles, including toy poodles. Standard poodles enjoy going on long walks for exercise, playing fetch, and taking part in other outdoor activities, such as swimming and playing in the water. For this reason, bathing your standard poodle is also fairly easily done as they tend to be lovers of water activities. If you have a standard poodle kept mainly indoors, it can get exercise by playing fetch in an open room or by going on daily walks around the neighborhood.

    Intelligence

    • Standard poodles are known for their intelligence, and they happen to be one of the most intelligent dog breeds. Not only is obedience training more simple than with some other types of dogs, but you may also be able to train your poodle to do various tricks, such as balancing items on its nose, playing dead, running in circles, jumping through hoops and doing flips.

    Additional Personality Traits

    • You will find standard poodles to be kind, loyal and good-natured dogs that get along with pretty much anyone, including other pets. On the flip side, standard poodles also get bored quite easily, so you want to always have something to keep it occupied, otherwise you might have to deal with persistent barking and trouble-making for attention.
