About Pomapoo Puppies

Pomapoos are among the long list of mixed poodle breeds popular for their intelligence and low shedding coat. Mixed-breed dogs inherit characteristics from both purebred parents but even with an established mix, it is hard to determine which traits will dominate. Pomapoo's vary greatly in size, color and temperament because of their mixed heritage.
  1. Pomapoo

    • A pomapoo is a mix between a Pomeranian and a toy or miniature poodle. The puppies can grow from 8 to 12 inches tall and weigh 3 to 15 pounds depending on the parents. The dogs tend to resemble the pointy nosed Pomeranian with close-set and big, bright eyes. They can inherit either the Pomeranian's triangle ears or the poodle's floppy ears. Pomapoos have a short, compact body with legs that are shorter than the body.

    Coat

    • The coat of the pomapoo varies greatly. Like Pomeranians and poodles, the pomapoo coat color can be white, black or tan. The basic colors of the parent breeds can combine in many ways and appear as shades of grey, brown and beige and practically everything in between. The coat type can be straight, wavy or curly like the poodle. The length of the hair can be from short to medium length, and the thick double coat of the Pomeranian can greatly influence the coat's texture, which can be either smooth or coarse. The coat needs regular grooming in both cases to prevent matting and skin problems that often affect the breed.

    Temperament

    • The pomapoo generally manifests the characteristics that both parent breeds have in common. Both Pomeranians and poodles are active and playful breeds with medium energy. Pomapoos get along with other animals and are good with children. They tend to be protective and bark often, sometimes behaving like a watch dog.

    Pomapoo Puppies

    • Pomapoo puppies need to be properly socialized and exposed to other people and animals. Although they do well in apartment environments, they need room to run and exercise on a daily basis. Pompapoo puppies are likely to immediately bond with the owner but are extroverted enough to avoid separation anxiety if they are trained well. Fortunately, the puppies are intelligent and highly trainable. Pomapoo's can experience health problems similar to the parent breeds, especially the health issues the two breeds have in common such as eye and skin infections.
