What Are the Sizes of Poodles?

Poodles are popular dogs because they do not shed very much so are good for allergy sufferers and they come in several different sizes. Whether you prefer large dogs, medium-sized dogs, small dogs or tiny dogs, there is a poodle that is perfect for you. Be sure to learn about the poodle's traits before you choose one for your family.
  1. Standard

    • Standard poodles are the largest of the breed. These poodles stand 15 inches or more from the highest part of the shoulders. Male standard poodles typically weigh between 45 pounds and 70 pounds, while females weigh between 45 pounds and 60 pounds.

    Miniature

    • Miniature poodles are between 11 inches and 15 inches at the tallest part of their shoulders. Both male and female miniature poodles typically weigh between 15 pounds and 17 pounds. To be recognized in competitions as a miniature poodle, a dog has to be over 10 inches and less than 15 inches. The weight is not measured.

    Toy

    • The toy poodle is the smallest poodle breed that is recognized by the American Kennel Club. These dogs should be no taller than 10 inches at the highest part of their shoulders. Toy poodles typically weigh between 6 pounds and 9 pounds.

    Teacup

    • Teacup poodles are not recognized by the American Kennel Club, so they are not shown in competitions. This poodle size is actually a smaller version of the toy poodle. Teacup poodles are generally less than 9 inches and weigh less than 6 pounds.
