Things You'll Need
- AKC Individual Dog Registration Form
- $20
Instructions
Ask the breeder for an Individual Dog Registration form. You will only be able to register your puppy if the owner has already registered the litter with the American Kennel Club. Reputable breeders register all of their dogs and litters, as it provides documented proof regarding the purebred status of their animals.
Begin the application online at akc.org. You will be taken to the American Kennel Club website and asked to enter some information.
Type in the AKC registration number, located at the top of the form the breeder gave you, in the appropriate field. Type your email in the field below it. Click next.
Follow the directions on screen to complete the registration process. You will be asked to provide your puppy's name and list its owners and co-owners.
Sign the application electronically. Ask every co-owner to do the same.
Decide what kind of registration package you would like. After registering your puppy, you will receive a AKC Registration Certificate, a complimentary vet visit and a free 60-day trial of AKC pet health insurance. You may also choose to purchase a pedigree, magazine subscription, and an AKC collar or training materials.
Complete the registration process by paying a one-time fee of $20. If you purchase anything beyond the basic registration package, the fee will be higher.
Keep the application overview for your records. It is particularly important to remember the transaction number.
Wait for your AKC Registration Certificate to arrive in the mail. You can always check the status of your registration application online at akc.org. To do so, have the transaction number handy.
