The island of Malta produced the first Maltese dogs and they have been popular ever since. Every economic class desires this dog because of its looks and character. It is easy to tote in a purse or sleeve but very energetic and full of character. Their fur is longer but is often trimmed short. They are smart and easy to train so with a little attention they make a great playmate.
Poodle

Poodles range in size from under 10 inches to over 15 inches and have tight curls throughout their coat. They originated in Germany but the French were quick to fall in love with this dog and claim it as their own. Hunters originally used this dog for water retrieval because of its intelligence and the ability of its fur to protect vital organs and joints from the cold. They are prone to a number of diseases so an owner should prepare for a little extra care.
Schnauzer

Schnauzers have been bred much smaller than their original version to make it a good house dog. This is a very strong and playful dog that makes a good companion. The smaller size came about in the 1800s in Germany and one of their main purposes is to hunt small animals, which is nice if you have unwanted furry guests around your home.
Bichon Frise

The Bichon Frise is a small white dog with lots of energy. Its fur is curly and grows fast which makes grooming a continual need. They have been seen in Spanish artistry and have frequented French royal courts throughout the centuries. Spanish traders hastened the popularity of this breed around the world after they first appeared in the 13th century. This dog is smart enough to perform tricks in the circus but is happy just being someone's companion.
