Breeds of Dogs That Are Under 15 Pounds Full Grown

Having a small dog has its advantages to owning a larger breed of animal as a pet. Small dogs often cost less to feed and take up a lot less space. Small dogs are sometimes also easier to deal with around groups of people and transport in the car. There are multiple well-known dog breeds that fall short of 15 pounds even when fully grown.
  1. Australian Terrier

    • The Australian terrier is a long-haired dog that typically weighs 12 to 14 pounds when it is grown. They have short tails and stubby legs. Australian terriers need to be brushed frequently due to their long hair and they get along with almost anyone.

    Bichon Frise

    • The Bichon Frise is a fluffy, white dog that ranges from 7 to 12 pounds in weight when grown. These dogs are usually under one foot tall, rarely shed and rarely need brushing. Bichon Frise dogs like attention but are not overly active.

    Chihuahua

    • Chihuahuas are toy-sized dogs well-known for their trademark appearance. Available with long or short hair, chihuahuas usually weigh 6 pounds at the most. They range up to nine inches in height. Shedding amounts are middling regardless of the chihuahua and they have plenty of energy.

    Havanese

    • Havenese dogs usually top out around 13 pounds and are no more than a foot tall. They have a relaxed but pleasant attitude and a fluffy coat. They get along with people and other animals alike. Havanese dogs must be brushed every few days and shed frequently.

    Maltese

    • While Maltese dogs have a relatively long, white coat, they hardly ever shed and require little grooming as a result. They stand around 10 inches tall and weigh 4 to 7 pounds on average. Maltese dogs love their owners but are best kept away from rowdy children since they are hurt easily.

    Toy Poodle

    • Toy poodles are miniature versions of regular poodles, so they look nearly exactly the same. Toy poodles generally weigh under 10 pounds and stand 10 or 11 inches tall. These dogs must be played with and paid attention to consistently, as they are smart and need something to challenge them.

    Papillon

    • Papillons have a lot of energy and an impressive jumping ability. They are more durable than many other small dog breeds and also have a lot of confidence. Papillon dogs weigh 10 pounds or less and stand nine inches tall at the most.

    Pomeranian

    • Pomeranians constantly have their mouth open so it looks like they are smiling. They have a very fluffy coat and weigh up to 7 pounds. Standing between seven inches and a foot tall, Pomeranians like a lot of attention and are not shy with strangers and other pets.
