What Dogs Are Easy to Train & Don't Bark?

When looking for a dog, it is important to first consider your wants and needs. Finding a dog that is easy to train and doesn't bark frequently isn't difficult if you understand what specific breeds typically have those characteristics. Intelligence does not necessarily mean a dog is easy to train, and every individual dog has a unique temperament. In order to find the dog breed that is best for you, it is essential to research various breeds and learning about their training capability and bark response.
  1. Golden Retriever

    • The Golden Retriever is considered one of the quietest dog breeds and one of the easiest to train. They are large and very active, but they are also highly social animals. Golden Retrievers rank high on intelligence and are innately obedient. The breed loves to play is typically good with children. As such, it is often seen as ideal option for families.

    Labrador Retriever

    • While not as quiet as Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers (or Labs) are still a quiet and highly intelligent breed. They are very quick learners and love to stay active. Generally, Labs are not as friendly as Golden Retrievers and not as good around children. Labs love being around people and are thought of as a well-balanced breed.

    Old English Sheepdog

    • Old English Sheepdogs bark slightly more than Labs. They are generally easy to train, but require a high amount of regular, routine exercise. They easily adapt to new surroundings and are great for families with small children or other pets. A disadvantage to some owners is that their long coat sheds and requires regular brushing and care.

    Saint Bernard

    • While still a quiet breed, the Saint Bernard barks more frequently than the Old English Sheepdog. Smart and strong, the Saint Bernard tends to be social, but not highly active as they do not require a geart deal of exercise. They are tolerant of other pets and children, making them a good family dog. The breed is also known for its gentle nature.
