Dogs That Are Good With Parrots

There are more than 500 breeds of dogs and some of them get along with other animals better than others. When it comes to getting along with a parrot, you definitely want to stay away from bird hunting breeds such as retrievers, pointers, spaniels and setters. But there are a good number of dogs that are compatible with other pets.
  1. Bichon Frise

    • The Bichon Frise is a small, white dog that resembles a poodle. These dogs have a happy temperament and are easy to train. They are a naturally sociable dog that enjoys being with people and easily gets along with others, including children and other pets. With proper training, they will learn quickly and are good at tricks and behaving as watchdogs. Bichon Frises easily fit into the pack and are obedient dogs.

    Collie

    • Collies are a large, strong and highly intelligent dog. They are easy to train and typically good with other pets and friendly with other dogs. Collies are loyal, playful and docile dogs that are also good with children. These dogs are generally easy to housebreak and enjoy outdoor activity. They are not aggressive dogs unless they sense a threat to themselves or their owners. Collies are protective dogs that should be trained gently but authoritatively.

    Miniature English Bulldog

    • This little bulldog was bred down in size and is an extremely affectionate dog. These dogs enjoy a lot of human attention and although it can be protective with strange dogs, it generally gets along very well with other pets. Miniature English Bulldogs have an extroverted nature and are great with children. One of their traits is snoring when asleep. They easily learn their place in the pack and need a strong leader.

    Basset Hound

    • Bassett Hounds are good-natured, gentle and well-behaved dogs. Their temperament is generally calm and friendly and are very affectionate dogs, especially with their owners. They are friendly with children, and typically never moody or vicious. Basset Hounds enjoy doing tricks but can be difficult to housebreak. They're obedient dogs that do well with training but can get sidetracked by certain scents due to their hound breeding.
