Instructions
Feed your adult dog 3/4 to 1 cup of high-quality, meat-based dog food per day. The Miniature Eskimo Dog typically reaches 11 to 20 pounds and therefore should not eat more than one cup of food per day. Puppies less than 8 weeks of age should eat three times per day, with their food divided between the three meals. The Dog Breed Info Center recommends feeding puppies double the amount that you would feed an adult dog (up to 2 cups per day) until it reaches 6 months of age, to accommodate for growth and an accelerated metabolism.
Brush your dog every day using a wire brush designed for long-haired dogs. The Miniature Eskimo has a thick double coat of fur and is highly prone to shedding. By maintaining the coat daily you will minimize shedding and matting and ensure that the coat remains shiny and healthy.
Exercise your dog daily. The Miniature Eskimo is a highly active breed that enjoys regular movement and outdoor activity. This breed also has a strong migration instinct, according to the Dog Breed Info Center, and therefore should enjoy at least one long walk every day. Regular exercise will satisfy the animal's instincts while minimizing the risk of canine obesity, a problem to which the Miniature Eskimo is prone.
Begin training at a young age. The Miniature Eskimo learns quickly, according to the American Kennel Club, and so you should have little difficulty with training. Begin with essential behaviors like house training and obedience training. Spend half an hour to an hour training each day and offer dog treat rewards for a job well done. Since the Miniature Eskimo longs to please its owner training time will serve as a form of bonding for the dog.
Bond with your dog each day. The Miniature Eskimo is an affectionate and dependent breed of dog, in need of constant affection, love and validation. If you spend considerable time away from the home you should consider adopting a more independent breed of dog.
