Instructions
Brush long-haired varieties on a daily basis. Trim wire-haired Dachshunds semi-annually, and wipe down smooth-haired varieties with a moist cloth every month.
Bathe the dog every two months or so. Pour a droplet of Castor oil into each eye. Place a small cotton ball in each ear. Fill the bath with mildly tempered water and several drops of dog shampoo. Massage with warm, soapy water, beginning with the head and working towards the rear. Rinse thoroughly and repeat as necessary. Pat dry with a towel.
Trim nails monthly to promote healthy paws and toenails. Clip each nail with a doggy trimmer, taking care to avoid the inner blood vessel, or quick.
Walk your Dachshund at least once a day to prevent obesity. Walk short distances, as Dachshunds tire easily. Prevent excessive jumping to protect the spine from injury.
Prepare meals according to age. Feed several times a day prior to age one. Offer one daily meal after age one, in combination with several biscuits or snacks. Provide water throughout the day to ensure a healthy coat and easier digestion.
