How to Take Care of Black Labs

Labrador retrievers are friendly dogs, but like any animal, they require proper care to remain healthy and happy. These dogs come in variations of three colors: yellow, brown (usually referred to as chocolate), and black. These dogs weigh between 60 and 80 pounds when fully grown, so training needs to be part of their care so they know who is in charge.

Instructions

    • 1

Feed the Labrador two-three times every day. Buy a food that has less than 25% protein, or one formulated for large breeds, as this will help to prevent hip dysplasia.

    • 2

Find a local obedience school for dogs to learn how to train your dog properly. A leash and collar will be needed for obedience school.

    • 3

Exercise the Labrador by taking it for a walk every day. A leash and collar will also be needed for this. Once your dog comes reliable when called, then you can start taking it to an off-leash dog park so it can run and socialize with other dogs.
