Choosing a Siberian Husky Puppy
Research the Siberian Husky breed, and ensure you only buy your puppy from a reputable breeder. Ask to see the parents of the puppy, as this will give you a good idea of what your puppy will look like when he is fully grown. Enquire whether the parents are registered.
Ask if the puppy has been wormed and vaccinated. Check that the puppy has a solid looking build, of medium size. Contary to what some people believe, Siberian Huskies are only considered a medium-sized dog, when fully grown.
Check that the puppy's fur is of medium length, straight and thick. Expect to see varied combinations of color on your puppy. He may be black and white, grey and white, or have even more than two colors; this is quite normal. The true siberian Husky puppy will have a variety of markings on his head; some may be quite striking.
Look at the color of the puppy's eyes. They may match, but they may also be different colors, or you may see more than one color in one of the puppy's eyes. This is normal.
Expect your puppy to be lively, energetic and to love running. Siberian Husky puppies are friendly and pack-oriented. They will not bark a lot, but may howl. They also don't have voracious appetites.
What Should True Siberian Husky Puppies Look Like?
Siberian Husky dogs were used as working dogs by the Chukchi Indian tribe, in what is now Siberia. However, they were not called Siberian Huskies until they were imported to the United States. This breed was first registered by the American Kennel Club in 1930. Siberian Huskies are working dogs, and so have specific characteristic, and also specific needs -- especially plenty of exercise. The potential owner should do as much research as possible before committing to the Siberian Husky as a pet.
