How Long Do Puggles Live?

Puggles are adorable mixed-breed dogs created by mating a beagle with a pug. Puggle popularity has soared since 2005 as they have become designer dogs owned by celebrities and possess the best traits of both breeds.
  1. History

    • Pugs make up one-half of the puggle breed.

The first puggles appeared in 2000 when experimenting breeders finally crossed the English beagle with the Asian pug. These dogs didn't become a hot trend until 2005, though, when celebrities began carrying them around and drawing the public eye to this exotic new hybrid. Puggles remained the hottest designer dog of the 2000s.

    Physical Characteristics

    • Beagles account for the other half.

Puggles generally weigh between 15 and 30 lbs; have short black, beige or silver hair; and have stocky builds with curly tails and wrinkled foreheads. They have floppy ears like a beagle and a short snout, which means they don't have the same breathing problems associated with pugs.

    Temperament

    • A puggle is the perfect mix of pug and beagle: they are energetic without being hyper; they bark but do not howl like beagles; they shed, but not much; have excellent senses of smell but no breathing issues; and they are naturally curious and playful. Puggles also are intelligent and can be easily trained.

    Lifespan

    • Falling in line with both of their parents, puggles have a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years. The average skews more toward 15 than 10, as small dogs routinely live past 10 since they have less health problems, on the whole, than big dogs. And without the breathing issues of pugs, the quality of life of puggles remains high.
