Instructions
Measure the length from the base of your Chihuahua's neck to the beginning of its tail. Also make note of the length around the widest part of the dog's body. Then measure from the base of the neck to the bottom of the leg. If your garment will fasten around the neck, also measure around the neck loosely, leaving ample breathing room.
Draw the pattern for your garment on a sheet of tracing paper. For example, if your garment is a sweater, use your measurements to create a pattern that takes into account the dog's neck size, length from neck to tail and length from neck to foot. Add 1 inch on all sides for seam allowance.
Cut out your pattern and position it over your piece of fabric, print side up. Trace out your pattern onto the fabric. Cut out your pattern pieces and pin them together, print side in.
Sew along your pinned lines. For extra strength for your clothing, use a second stitch along your initial sewn line. Create a hem by folding your fabric over 1/2 inch and pressing with an iron. Then repeat this and press again. Sew your folds together to create a clean and finished hem.
Cut off any excess material along your seams. Turn your fabric inside out and add any decorative touches. For example, applique letters, fabric trim pieces, custom embroidery or even hot-glued sequins and gems can add color and interest to your dog's garment.
