Labrador Retriever Puppies & Bad Habits

Labrador retrievers are popular pets and are said to be one of the best breeds in terms of temperament, loyalty and affection. Lab puppies do have tendencies toward certain bad habits which you must catch and correct early to keep them from becoming serious problems in adulthood.
  1. Mouthing And Chewing

    • Labrador retrievers were bred to track and retrieve game and have a natural instinct to carry objects in their mouths and to chew on things, which can include human hands. Puppies that are also teething are particularly prone to do this.

    Overeating

    • All puppies will eat whatever is placed in front of them, but Labs in particular have a tendency to overeat and become overweight. Feeding them table scraps as puppies can lead to undesirable behavior such as begging and eating "people" food as adults.

    Hyperactivity And Destructiveness

    • If they don't receive adequate exercise, Lab puppies can easily become hyperactive and destructive, which can lead to excessive barking and shredding and destruction of household objects, particularly furniture legs.
