About Brittany Puppies

Like most puppies, the Brittany puppy is an adorable and energetic dog that could prove to be a loving addition to the right family. Of course, puppies do grow up, so it is important to give your Brittany puppy love and dedication throughout puppyhood so that it can grow into a healthy and well-behaved adult.
  1. Appearance

    • According to the American Brittany Rescue website, the Brittany has a soft, dense and wavy coat that is usually white and orange or liver-colored and white. It has a compact body and long legs. A Brittany puppy is sometimes born with an extremely short tail, and if it is not, the tail may be docked to 4 inches.

    Temperament and Character

    • Brittany puppies are extremely intelligent and good-natured. They are very friendly and aim to please, but their energetic behavior can be startling to younger children. However, their intentions are not to harm. Brittanys are very affectionate dogs that make wonderful companions.

    Training

    • Because of the Brittany puppy's high level of energy and general curiosity about the world around them, it is important to begin training right away. Brittanys are willing to learn and do so very quickly, but they must be trained gently and with patience. They are very sensitive, so overly-aggressive training could result in your puppy becoming shy and fearful. Brittany puppies should also be introduced to new places and people often to further overcome potential shyness. Puppies get bored easily, so they need plenty of attention and stimulation.

    Grooming

    • During puppyhood and even into adulthood, Brittanys do not need constant grooming. They shed lightly and only require the occasional brushing.

    What Potential Buyers Should Consider

    • Most puppies need frequent exercise, but Brittanys require even more. The owner will need to bring the puppy outside for long walks and be prepared to continue this practice into the Brittany's adult life. Their need to exercise makes them not well-suited for apartment life. Time for training must be considered as well. A Brittany puppy must be socialized so that the puppy does not become destructive or develop bad habits such as biting. Small children and Brittanys can be an excellent match, but the puppy should be introduced to the child right away. They should also never be left alone with each other, just in case the puppy's energetic behavior should need to be calmed.
