How Can I Register My Dog As a Pure Breed?

Registering a puppy or dog through one of the certified kennel clubs gives the dog an added validation that is important in many situations. An American Kennel CLub (AKC) or Continental Kennel CLub (CKC) registration controls the breeding of the dog, the registrations of any puppies from those breedings and even the dog's inclusion in some events. For a dog to be registered as a pure blood with either of these organizations, a few steps must be taken.

Instructions

Secure proof that your dog or puppy is purebred. If you purchased a puppy from a breeder, they should provide you with the necessary paperwork for registration. For the AKC, you will need proof that both parent dogs were AKC registered. For the CKC, you will need proof that both parent dogs were registered with a certified kennel club.

Acquire registration papers. These are papers that are already partially filled out for a puppy that has the option of being registered. Again, these should be provided by any breeder, but are also available through the CKC and AKC sites.

Fill the forms out with the information on your dog and its parents. These registrations can be done through the mail or on line.
