Rhodesian Ridgebacks originated in Zimbabwe and South Africa and were used for hunting and retrieving. Anatolian Shepherd Dogs come from Asia Minor and were used to guard livestock.
Identification

Rhodesian Ridgebacks are shorthaired, muscular dogs that are usually tan. They have a distinctive ridge of hair that grows down the middle of the back. Anatolian Shepherd Dogs have a slightly longer coat that is fawn in color. There are also quite muscular.
Behavior

Both of these dogs have good temperaments and are intelligent. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are obedient but may play too rough for small children. Anatolian Shepherd Dogs are great watchdogs but are more difficult to train. They tend to bark a lot at night.
Considerations

Rhodesian Ridgebacks can live in small apartments, but do better in houses with a yard. They will adjust to life indoors with little hassle. Anatolian Shepherds, on the other hand, need more outdoor space. However, they are often suspicious of strangers and should be kept behind a fence.
Life Span

Rhodesian Ridgebacks typically live 10 to 12 years while Anatolian Shepherd Dogs survive longer, about 12 to 15 years.
