Spaniels are sweet, energetic dogs with long and luxurious fur. The breed was originally bred for hunting and is highly active. They makes a great pet for a families, couples or singles. The dog ranges from medium size to the popular toy size.     • The Cocker Spaniel's personality and size makes it a popular companion. This dog is named after a bird called the "wood cock." The general Cocker Spaniel is 14 to 15 inches tall and weighs from 24 to 28 pounds. Cocker Spaniels have long and thick coats. A show Cocker Spaniel's coat needs grooming every day or every other day to keep it from matting and tangling. The Cocker Spaniel's long ear flaps make him susceptible to infections. They are also susceptible to skin conditions, hip dysplasia and eye problems. Cocker Spaniels have a variety of coat patterns. They can be solid black, black and tan, buff or parti-color--a combination or white and tan, white and black, or black, tan and white. The Cocker Spaniel is registered as an official breed by the American Kennel Club.

    Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

    • The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a toy spaniel made famous as Charlotte York's dog on the television series "Sex and the City." The small dog is energetic and suitable for city or country life. They have gentle natures and long, silky coats. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel stands 12 to 13 inches and weighs between 13 and 18 pounds. Their coats come in four colors. The first color is Blenheim, which is a combination of chestnut and white. The second is tricolor, which is black, white and tan. The third is Ruby, which is a solid red. The last is a combination of black and tan. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is registered as an official breed by the American Kennel Club.

    English Cocker Spaniel

    • The English Cocker Spaniel is more reserved and a bit larger than the regular Cocker Spaniel breed. However, English Cocker Spaniels are still popular choices for pets because they are easygoing and affectionate. The English Cocker stands 15 to 17 inches tall and weighs in at 26 to 34 pounds. The color coats of the English Cocker Spaniel come in liver, red, black or in parti-colors, which are markings of black, liver, or red either in clear patterns or with ticking or roan effect. The English Cocker Spaniel is also registered as an official breed by the American Kennel Club.
