The English bull dog derives its name from the fact they they were once bred to be used for bull baiting and fighting. This practice has since been banned but the breed retains the traits of fearlessness, tenacity and courage.

Unfortunately, this breed rarely lives longer than a decade. The typical lifespan is about eight to nine years.

Known for its wrinkly face and varied expressions, the English bull dog has a thick body, short legs, and a prominent head.

This dog is capable of bursts of speed, but only for short distances.
Disposition

The English bull dog can be a great family dog because of its patience; the dog rarely shows signs of displeasure. Also, because they were once bred for courage, English bull dogs rarely bother owners with whining, and they only bark in cases of extreme duress.
