How to Take Care of a Yorkie Poo

A Yorkie Poo is a relatively new breed of dog, the result of breeding a Yorkshire terrier with a poodle. The result is hard to predict. Some offspring will favor a Yorkshire terrier, while others will favor the poodle more. The size of a Yorkie Poo will range anywhere from 4 to 14 pounds and it will stand 6 to 9 inches tall. Caring for Yorkie Poos has its own special challenges, as you must learn about both Yorkies and poodles.

Instructions

Yorkie Poos should be fed three times a day until they are 6 months of age. After six months, feedings should be cut back to twice a day. Feed according to your dog's weight and the instructions on the dog food bag. The bigger the dog, the more they will eat.

    • 2

Walk your Yorkie Poo at least three times a week. Because of their small size, daily walks are not necessary, but a Yorkie Poo is easily excitable and will often be full of energy. They make great apartment dogs, but they will require a lot of personal attention to be happy.

    • 3

Brush or comb your Yorkie Poo daily. The coat may resemble a terrier's or a poodle's, so grooming tips may vary. Unless you are a groomer, you will need to visit a groomer regularly to care for your Yorkie Poo's coat. At a minimum, they will require a quick comb out every day.

Give vaccinations according to schedule. Puppies should receive their first DHLPP vaccine (distemper and parvo) between 6 and 8 weeks of age. They should receive additional boosters every two to three weeks until four have been given. After that, your pup will need a yearly booster vaccine.

The Yorkie Poo should be dewormed at least twice as a puppy, two weeks apart. Test the dog for parasites yearly at the veterinarian's office and treat as needed. It is fairly easy for dogs to contract parasites. Warning signs will be diarrhea and upset stomach.
