Instructions
When you purchase a dog that a breeder or seller states is a purebred, you should get an individual Dog Registration Application from the seller. If they do not have the application necessary, you can register a dog online at www.akc.org.
A dog can only be registered if the litter and parents are already registered, however, the AKC also offers PAL/ILP registration (Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privilege ) for purebreds -- it's the "second chance" option for dogs that cannot prove litter registration, but still want to be included in AKC events.
The Dog Registration Application must be filled out jointly by the seller and owner. You'll need the following info: sex, breed, markings, owner info, registration type, dog's name and signatures of all owners.
Once you've filled it out, submit the application with the processing fees per AKC's instructions.
In approximately six weeks, an AKC Registration Certificate will be mailed to you. Be sure to review for accuracy!
Once registered, you and your dog will be able to enjoy the many benefits of this highly regarded kennel club!
