How many American alligater are left?

The population of American alligators in the wild is estimated to be between 5 and 7 million individuals. These reptiles inhabit freshwater habitats in the southeastern United States, primarily in wetlands, rivers, lakes, and swamps. Their population has grown significantly since the species was declared endangered in 1967, thanks to successful conservation efforts and strict regulation of hunting and habitat protection. As a result, the American alligator is now considered to be of "Least Concern" conservation status by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
