What eaxctly is a hyena it in the bear family?

A hyena is not in the bear family. Hyenas are in the family Hyaenidae, which diverged from bears millions of years ago. Although there are similar traits, such as being carnivorous and having four legs, a bear’s genetic similarity is closer to a seal as opposed to a cat and a mongoose as opposed to a dog like that of a hyena. While both are predators who share similar niches, they developed these strategies independently of each other in their respective habitats due to evolutionary convergence.
