* American Pit Bull Terrier
* Staffordshire Bull Terrier
* American Staffordshire Terrier
* Bull Terrier
* Miniature Bull Terrier
Each of these breeds has its own unique history and characteristics, and there is some debate over whether or not they should all be considered pit bulls. For example, the American Kennel Club (AKC) recognizes the American Pit Bull Terrier as a separate breed, while the United Kingdom Kennel Club (UKC) does not.
The term "pit bull" is also sometimes used to refer to dogs that are not purebred, but that have some of the physical characteristics of pit bulls. These dogs may be mixes of two or more different breeds, or they may be purebred dogs that do not meet the AKC or UKC breed standards.
Because there is no single definition of what constitutes a pit bull, it is difficult to say how many pit-bull breeds there are. However, there are at least four breeds of dogs that are commonly referred to as pit bulls, and there are many more dogs that may have some pit bull ancestry.
