Is the akhal teke considered an old breed?

The Akhal-Teke is an ancient horse breed that originated in Turkmenistan. Although its exact origins are unknown, they are speculated to date back as far as 3,000 years. They have remained relatively unchanged over the millennia and hold historical and cultural significance in Turkmenistan. Their history is interwoven with nomadic tribes and conquerors such as Alexander the Great. The modern Akhal-Teke retains many traits consistent with the desert dwelling horses of historical times.

Therefore based on historical and archaeological evidence the Akhal-Teke breed is often regarded as an "ancient" breed of horse.
