Where did Jack Russell Terriers come from?

Jack Russell Terriers originated in England in the early 1800s. They were developed by the Reverend John Russell, a passionate fox hunter and breeder of terriers. Russell sought to create a small, sturdy, and agile dog that could keep up with foxhounds during hunts and help flush out foxes from their dens. Through careful selective breeding, he developed a distinct type of terrier known as the "Parson Jack Russell Terrier". These dogs became renowned for their exceptional hunting abilities, intelligence, and friendly nature. Over time, they gained popularity as versatile companions and working dogs beyond fox hunting and were later recognized as a distinct breed, now commonly known as the Jack Russell Terrier.
