What is used for the bristles of a camels hair brush?

It's a bit of a misnomer! Camel hair brushes don't actually use camel hair.

The bristles are typically made from:

* Squirrel hair: This is the most common type of hair used for camel hair brushes. It's known for its soft, springy, and durable qualities.

* Goat hair: This hair is also soft and durable, and is often used for brushes that are more affordable than those made with squirrel hair.

* Pony hair: A more firm option, pony hair is used for brushes that need to be more durable, such as those used for oil painting.

The name "camel hair brush" stuck from the early days when true camel hair was sometimes used for brushes. But today, true camel hair is rarely used, as it's not as soft or durable as the other options.
