How to Cut a Goldendoodle's Fur

Goldendoodles have a soft and either shaggy or curly coat. The poodle from which the dog is bred has a high maintenance coat that requires frequent brushing and trimming while the golden retriever, the other half of its breed, is relatively low maintenance. The goldendoodle's coat is prone to tangles from dead and dying hairs that rarely shed. While frequent brushing is a must and owners may choose an elaborate style for their goldendoodle, only minimal cutting is required to keep the dog neat and clean.

Instructions

    • 1

Brush the dog from the skin to the end of the hair with a slicker brush. Part the hair if necessary to remove all of the tangles and knots.

    • 2

Trim the hair around the anus and at the base of the tail with straight scissors to prevent feces from matting in the hair.

    • 3

Lay the dog on its side and trim the hairs in between the pads. Press on the middle pad and hold the scissors against the pad to trim the protruding hairs. Do not put the scissors in between the pads as you can cut the pad.

    • 4

Using the blunt tipped scissors, trim the hair in between the eyes and the eyebrows to keep the hair out of the dog's eyes.

    • 5

Part the hair down the middle of the muzzle and trim the beard.

    • 6

Trim the coat the desired length with straight scissors or just trim fly away hairs on the body and legs. You can also choose to use hair clippers, but do not shave the dog's coat as there is a chance it will not grow back properly.
