General Grooming and Upkeep
-
You should brush your Pomapoo regularly regardless of what type of coat it has to make sure there are no snags or trapped dirt in the hair. Cut off any tangles you see, especially in the long-haired varieties. Start from the nape of the dog̵7;s neck and work your way down to the tail. Brushing in the opposite direction, against the grain, can be very painful and create even more tangles. If you do reach a snag in the hair, consider cutting it out as opposed to brushing it out for the comfort of the dog. Make sure you check the chest and underside of the tail as that is where tangles and dirt are most prevalent.
Pomeranian-influenced Styles
-
The most popular Pomeranian haircut is also known as the ̶0;lion cut.̶1; This is a summer cut that helps your dog stay cool and clean in the outdoor heat. There are many variations of the lion cut, but the most common is accomplished by leaving the dog̵7;s hair at its natural length around the neck and face and shaving the belly, chest and hindquarters. Hair on the legs and tail should also be cut short; a fun twist is to leave a poof around the ankles and tip of the tail. Brush the hair on the neck and head upward and trim hair into a rounded shape around the ears. This will create the look of a lion̵7;s mane. This look can be dramatized by shaving the entire coat short with the exception of the neck and head.
Poodle-influenced Styles
-
Poodles have some of the most extensive and unique hairstyles of any dog breed. Poodle haircuts are typically characterized by very short or shaved hair over the majority of the body with bracelets and pom-poms of fur around the ankles, hindquarters and tail. Hair around the top of the head and ears is typically left long and natural.
Elements of Both
-
A look for a Pomapoo could be a combination of these two common styles of the Pomeranian and poodle. Start by giving your dog the lion cut around the neck and face and include the bracelets and pom-poms around the ankles and tail. One important thing to remember above all is that Pomapoos, like their Pomeranian and poodle parents, are susceptible to ear infections, so you should check their ears constantly and cut hairs that you see growing out of the ears.

Pomapoo Hairstyles
Pomapoos are not a standard dog breed as recognized by the American Kennel Club. They are a mixed breed between Pomeranian and poodle. Although most Pomapoos are about 8 to 12 inches tall and weigh between 3 and 14 pounds, their appearance can vary greatly as the two parent breeds are aesthetically quite different. They can favor the Pomeranian features more, with thick coats of long wiry hair, or they can take on attributes of a poodle, with a dense coats of short, curly locks. Before attempting to create a hairstyle for your Pomapoo, you should first determine which relative it most closely resembles and use that as a guide.
