How to Groom Goldendoodle Eyes

Playful and intelligent dogs, goldendoodles are a hybrid breed. Created by cross-breeding a golden retriever with a standard poodle, goldendoodles are low-shedding animals with a long, curly coat that can grow wild if not properly cared for. You must keep long hair away from your goldendoodle̵7;s eyes to prevent it from entering them and causing bacterial infection. Regular eye care should be part of your goldendoodle̵7;s grooming schedule to keep its eyes healthy.

Carefully trim excess hair from around your goldendoodle̵7;s eyes with blunt-edged scissors. Position the blade end of the scissors away from the dog̵7;s eyes to prevent it from accidentally hurting your dog. Trim the hair parallel to the edge of your dog̵7;s eyelid. Ensure that you trim only as much hair as is required to enable your dog to have clear vision.

Apply a tear stain remover to remove unsightly stains around your goldendoodle̵7;s eyes. Tear stains mar the appearance of the coat and encourage bacterial proliferation. Pour a few drops of the tear stain remover on a small piece of cotton wool. Gently rub the cotton wool around the area below the lower eyelids of your dog̵7;s eyes.

Examine your dog̵7;s eyes daily for mucus discharge. Use a damp cloth to wipe the mucus away. You can also clean your dog̵7;s eyes with a little sterile veterinary eyewash. Clean the mucus immediately to prevent eye infection.
