How to Give Your Dog a Haircut for a Round Face

Breeds of dogs like the West Highland terrier and bichon frise have breed standard haircuts that give the head a rounded look, while the shi tzu's groom haircut enhances the natural round frame of the head. Rounding the head using a haircut works well with curly hair since it can be combed out and hold shape. Dogs with long hair and pointed ears that stand on top of the head are also good candidates to create a rounded head with a haircut.

Instructions

    • 1

Brush out the hair on the head and ears.

    • 2

Using the rounded scissors, trim the hair from the base of the ear to the base of the other ear, rounding out the beard and neck hair.

    • 3

Trim from the base of the ear when ears are pointed, continuing on the same rounded line to the tip of the ear. In the case of floppy ears, trim the hair on the ear continuing the line from the cheeks. Trim the hair on the underside of floppy ears so that they fall flat on the face and blend with the circle.

    • 4

Finish the rounded circle by trimming the same line on the top of the head.

    • 5

Brush out the head and trim away fly away hairs.
