How to Groom a Maltichon

Maltichons are produced by two pure-breeds, the Maltese and the Bichon Frise. These dogs possess a friendly personality, and can be a welcoming addition to the family. The Maltichon has a wavy, soft, non-shedding coat. Grooming your Maltichon will not only keep your puppy healthy and happy, but will also create a bond between both of you. With these basic guidelines, grooming your Maltichon can be enjoyable for you and your dog.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a slicker brush to remove matted and dead hair from your Maltichon's coat. Lift up a smaller layer of the hair and brush the hair starting from the root. Comb through the coat with a metal comb. Brushing and combing is recommended every other day to prevent matted hair.

    • 2

Lift the flap of your Maltichon's ear and clean between the creases with a cotton swab. Remove hair from the ear canal and use an ear solution for dogs to clean the ear. Tweezers that are blunt can be used to remove the excess hair from inside the ear canal.

    • 3

Moisten a cotton swab with tear stain remover and use it to carefully wipe away tear stain from around the eyes. This should be done at least once a day to get rid of the stain as well as prevent bacteria from growing.

    • 4

Practice good dental hygiene by brushing your Maltichon's teeth once a week. This will prevent the buildup of tartar. A finger brush or a small toothbrush can be used with pet toothpaste.

    • 5

Give your Maltichon a bath every two weeks. Use a blunt scissors to neatly trim the dog's coat, including around the feet pads and the anus. Trim your dog's nail after a warm bath as this will make the nails softer.
