How to Make a Poodle Ribbon Hair Clip

Though poodles are sometimes thought of as a French breed of dog, poodles originated in Germany. Despite their fluffy fur, puffy ears and dainty features, poodles originally ran alongside hunters as water retrievers. Now they are often regarded as loveable pets and countless owners enjoy dressing them up. Owners with arts and crafts experience can create their own bows for their poodles from ribbon and a few other materials.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of ribbon as long as you like. If you have a standard poodle, cut a bigger piece of ribbon, about 5 inches long. For a miniature poodle or a toy poodle, cut the ribbon about 3 inches long. The ribbon can be of any design or material, though thicker ribbons may make firmer, more attractive bows.

    • 2

Turn the ribbon over so that the underside of the ribbon faces upwards. Fold both ends of the ribbon inwards so that they overlap in the middle. Stick a pin through the center of the ribbon all the way through the overlapped section and out of the bottom to keep it in place.

    • 3

Thread your needle and knot the end of the thread. Insert the needle into the very center of the folded ribbon and stitch the center down so that the ends of the rectangle are looped but the middle is pressed in.

Cut a small strip of fabric and loop it around the center of the bow to cover the stitching. Hot glue this small loop or sew it in place. Slip an alligator clip or any other type of hair clip through the small loop you just added and pin it to your poodle's hair. Make another matching clip and place one next to each ear, if you desire.
