Trimming a Labradoodle's Beard

When groomed, a labradoodle -- a cross between a Labrador retriever and a poodle -- should have a neat cut that allows the fur to fall naturally. The beard-like hair of the muzzle, which all male labradoodles have, should be trimmed in this way to keep the animal looking well groomed and to prevent matting.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the shears to trim the fur on the dog's throat, on its neck and to the chest between the shoulders. Be careful not to cut the hair too short, since it would look awkward and cause the coat to appear a different texture.

    • 2

Start at about two inches above the nose and trim the muzzle fur at an angle, pointing down to where the muzzle meets the head, also called the ̶0;stop.̶1; Trim so that the muzzle looks rounded.

    • 3

Trim the hair along the lip to thin it out and to keep fur out of the dog's mouth. Leave about one inch of fur.

    • 4

Trim and thin out the area under the chin and the neck area to prevent matting.
