How to Comb a Wheaten Terrier

Wheaten terriers originated in Ireland and come in a variety of coats, such as the American, traditional Irish, heavy Irish and English. Wheaten terriers have different color coats which are red, brown, black, mahogany or white with black. Their fur is considered to be hypoallergenic, which means they are suitable for allergy suffers. Combing a Wheaten terrier is necessary to prevent the hair from becoming matted. Using the right technique can make combing your dog's hair enjoyable.

Instructions

Spray a light mist of water over your Wheaten terrier's coat. Spraying too much can make it become entangled. A slight mist will make it easier for you to move through the hair.

    • 2

Use a slicker brush to brush out the hair on the dog's chest, sides, neck, belly and tail, while avoiding the eye area. Brush the hair in layers, starting close to the skin and working your way to the ends. Thoroughly brush out the entire coat with the slicker brush using this pattern.

Separate small layers of hair and use a wide tooth comb to comb out large knots and tangles. Continue to comb through the hair layer by layer until you have thoroughly removed all the knots. Comb your Wheaten terrier's coat at least twice a week.
