How to Cut a Mini Schnauzer's Hair on Its Face

The Miniature Schnauzer's coat can grow long quite quickly and requires monthly trimming. The facial hair especially, if not cut, can prevent the dog from seeing and may cause eye infections. The Miniature Schnauzer resembles an old wise man with its facial hair trimmed in the traditional show cut.The stately eyebrows and aristocratic beard are both recognizable characteristics of the Schnauzer cut. The style of a Mini Schnauzer's facial hair includes precision cuts with very straight edges and shaving with clippers.

Instructions

    • 1

Comb all of the hair on its face to remove tangles and knots.

    • 2

Shave its head above its eyebrows and in-between its ears using clippers. Clip in-between its eyes to the beginning of its muzzle and to the corner of its inner eye. Shave the side of its face in-between the base of its ear and its eyebrow down to the jaw line. Leave the beard on its muzzle intact.

    • 3

Part the beard in the middle of its nose, and comb the hair to each side of its nose.

    • 4

Trim its beard hair even on both sides. The length is entirely up to you, but a show cut leaves its beard the natural length and trims only flyaway hairs.

    • 5

Comb its eyebrows forward toward the nose. Using the comb as a guide, cut a diagonal line from the inner corner of its eye to the outer corner of its eye. The longest hair should be at the inner corner of the eye and the the shortest hair at the outer corner of the eye.
