How to Groom a Pekepoo

The Pekepoo, a cross-breed between the poodle and Pekingese, varies in its physical appearance. This small, playful dog can inherit the features of either parent. It can have the nonshedding, wiry coat of its poodle parent, or the long, silky coat of its Pekingese parent ̵1; both of which require regular grooming. In addition to grooming your Pekepoo̵7;s coat, you must pay special attention to its ears, teeth and nails as part of the grooming process.

Instructions

Brush your Pekepoo̵7;s coat daily to detangle matted fur. Use a standard hairbrush or plastic glove if your dog has short hair and a pin brush if it has a long coat. Regular brushing will help to evenly spread body oils secreted from the dog̵7;s skin all across its coat.

Bathe your Pekepoo every two months. Place a nonslip bath mat in the bathtub to prevent your dog from slipping. Fill the bathtub up to 4 inches with lukewarm water and place your dog in it. Use a hand-held shower head or plastic container to moisten the dog̵7;s head and any portion of its body that is not wet. Lather its body with a good quality dog shampoo, taking care to avoid the eyes, ears and nose. Thoroughly rinse the shampoo from its body with warm water. Towel dry or blow-dry your dog̵7;s fur.

Clip your dog̵7;s nails every month with dog nail clippers. Trim a small portion of the nails each time to prevent them from overgrowing. Inspect each paw for dirt and weeds such as burs and foxtails, and clean them.

Check your dog̵7;s ears every week for any accumulated wax and dirt, or signs of infection. Dip a small piece of cotton wool in mineral oil and gently rub it around the inside of your dog̵7;s ears to clean them.

Take your dog to the veterinarian for a monthly dental checkup. Consult your veterinarian to descale its teeth annually to prevent dental problems.
