How to Groom Maltipoo Dogs

Maltipoos, or Maltese and poodle mixes, are dogs with thick, fluffy coats that typically have a curly or wavy texture. A Maltipoo does not shed, and its coat can mat up and accumulate dirt over time if not properly trimmed. You can groom Maltipoo dogs with some simple dog grooming supplies, and save the cash of hiring a professional service to do the work.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a standard dog brush to brush your Maltipoo on a daily basis, to prevent its coat from tangling and remove dirt and dead hair. Brush your Maltipoo in the direction of its fur in long, smooth strokes. Brush the dog beneath its chin, legs and belly to ensure the entire coat is groomed.

    • 2

Bathe your Maltipoo dogs using a dog shampoo, according to the shampoo manufacturer̵7;s directions. Carefully remove any dirt or sediment within the dog̵7;s ears with a soapy washcloth. Rinse off the soap with warm water.

    • 3

Combine equal parts milk of magnesia, baby powder and boric powder in a small cup until it forms a paste. Gently rub the paste into any tear stains on your Maltipoo with a soft toothbrush to remove the stains. Rinse off the paste with warm water right after it dries.

    • 4

Use trimming shears to carefully cut off any hair around your Matipoo̵7;s eyes. Excess hair in your dog̵7;s eyes can block its vision or cause hair or sediment in its hair to lodge painfully in its eyes.

    • 5

Use a toothbrush to brush your Maltipoo̵7;s teeth on a bi-weekly basis. Brushing your Matipoo̵7;s teeth helps remove and prevent the buildup of tartar and bacteria.

    • 6

Check your Maltipoo̵7;s nails to determine if they need to be trimmed. If you hear your Maltipoo̵7;s nails hitting the floor when it walks, they require a trim. Locate the quick ends of your dog̵7;s nails, or the light pink-colored portion of the nail above the claw. Cut at least 2 mm below the quick with dog nail clippers, while securely holding your Maltipoo.

Use a dog hair electric trimmer to trim away the Maltipoo̵7;s fur. Cut the fur around the dog̵7;s body to ½ inch, and cut to ¾ inches around the legs to keep the hair neat and prevent excess matting.
