Things You'll Need
- Deshedding comb
- Scissors
- Electric dog grooming clippers
- Clipper gate attachments
Instructions
Comb the Wheaten terrier's coat using a fine-tooth comb, such as a deshedding comb, to remove any clumps of hair. Comb in the direction of the hair's growth after bathing and blow-drying the dog's coat.
Use scissors to cut any mats by holding the clump by the teeth of the comb and cutting just below each clump.
Trim the hair around the face and eyes with scissors and thinning shears. Shape the hair so that it remains long and droops to a teardrop shape when viewed from the side. Trim the forehead to a length of no more than 3/4-inch long.
Cut the fall, or bangs, so that only the outer part of the eyes are visible. Use thinning shears to obtain a more even look. Trim the beard so that it hangs about an inch below the dog's jawline evenly. Pluck any hair from the ear canal and trim carefully with scissors around the ear flaps, removing any uneven length.
Use electric dog grooming clippers equipped with a 3/4-inch (medium) clipper gate attachment and trim the hair along the back and sides of the torso.
Switch to a 1/4-inch clipper gate (small) and trim the area below the tail up to the back of the dog's knees.
Use scissors to shape the hair on the dog's legs and belly. Leave about 2 or 3 inches of length for the hair on the legs and about 1 to 2 inches on the chest and stomach.
Step back and trim any extraneous hairs or uneven lengths on the dog's coat. Comb the dog's coat again.
