How to Bathe a Teacup Yorkie

Teacup Yorkshire dogs need regular bathing just like any other breed of dog. Due to the small size of this breed, ensuring its safety and handling it with care are vital during a bath. While bath time can be a fun bonding experience, you must properly and thoroughly clean your dog.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the faucet on and let it run until the water feels slightly warmer than lukewarm.

    • 2

Plug the sink with a sink stopper. Place a bath mat at the bottom of your sink. The bathmat provides extra grip for your dog̵7;s feet and prevents slipping, which can injure your dog.

    • 3

Add a few drop of dog shampoo to the water as it runs. Let the water run until the sink is filled with 4 inches of water. Turn off the faucet. Move the faucet head out of the way if you have a moveable faucet head.

    • 4

Gently place your dog in the water. Place one hand gently on the back of the dog. Keep your hand on the dog at all times while it is in the water.

    • 5

Saturate a clean cloth in the sink. Carefully place the cloth on top of the dog̵7;s fur. Rub the dog down with the cloth. Using a cloth to wet the dog̵7;s fur helps reduce getting water in the ears or in the eyes.

    • 6

Squeeze dots of shampoo down the spine of the dog. Massage the shampoo into the fur. Work the shampoo down the legs, through the tail and the backside. Squeeze shampoo onto your fingertips and gently massage the underside of the dog, as well as the chest. Add more shampoo to your fingertips and carefully wash the face, avoiding the eyes.

    • 7

Turn the faucet on once more. Place a clean cloth under the faucet until it is saturated with water. Turn the faucet off. Do not squeeze the cloth.

    • 8

Rub the cloth over your dog. Squeeze the cloth as you rub down the fur. The water that is squeezed out of the cloth helps rinse the fur.

    • 9

Turn the faucet back on and rinse the cloth. Saturate the cloth once more and rub down the dog. Repeat until you remove all the shampoo from the fur. Carefully wipe the face down with the edge of the cloth.
